After meeting up with the grandparents (my Mom and the Geek’s Dad) and Mr. Charm, we left to go find some food for me to eat. We were quickly interrupted by a phone call from the allergists office asking if we were okay and where we were. I was a … Continue reading →
One month in to our family elimination diet, I am now an expert at making delicious, juicy hamburgers, pot roast to drool over, french fries you can’t wait to eat, and am now branching out into quinoa recipes! This month has brought about a 25 pound weight loss for me, … Continue reading →
Yesterday and today brought three more diapers I wanted guaiac-ed, so this afternoon I drove the kiddos the 50 minute, 35 mile drive to our pediatricians office. They tested positive. Not even ‘trace’ – just flat-out, full-fledged “positive” (which is a negative as far as I’m concerned). Combine that with … Continue reading →
Yesterday Mr. Happy had two suspicious diapers. They were mucousy, and sort of, maybe looked like a little tiny bit of blood…but I wasn’t sure. Since we want to start nursing him again this weekend, I’d really like to know what his little body is doing before we start so … Continue reading →
Mr. Happy had a rough day. He wanted to be held. But only in certain positions, thank you! He ‘snacked’ all day. Wouldn’t drink a full bottle at all! Just an ounce at a time, but every single hour. It was straight up comfort feeding. He napped a ton. More … Continue reading →
Mr. Happy seemed to be doing better on the Elecare last week. He had a few days of Happy Baby – no clinginess, no vomit, very little spit up, doing great! I thought it was just the transition to elemental formulas, and that he had pushed through to a new … Continue reading →
I nursed Mr. Happy three times. Then he started reacting. So I stopped. Bummer for both of us. However, I knew my system wasn’t completely cleaned out, so it’s not really a surprise. I had just hoped that it was cleaned out enough that he would react only as badly … Continue reading →
I got up with the kids this morning to let the Geek sleep in a bit (returning the favor!) and started off with our breakfast potato pancakes. Mr. Charm was playing in the new addition, when suddenly he ran up to me shouting “Murray!” (our cat) and grabbed my hand … Continue reading →
The Geek read my posts from yesterday, and so this morning, he let me sleep in. Until 1:00 P.M., y’all! Sometimes that man knows me better than I know myself, because my mood is decidedly more upbeat today than it was yesterday. Exhaustion can drain you of everything, even good … Continue reading →
Today was the first day of our whole family elimination diet. I think I jumped into this before I was ready… When I arrived in the kitchen this morning to make breakfast, I realized the only pineapple we had was in the little tubs. Okay, no problem, those will be … Continue reading →
FPIES stands for Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome. It is a rare food allergy that affects the gastrointestinal system. Reactions are delayed onset, usually 2-4 hours after a trigger food is eaten, but sometimes even longer than that.
Children with FPIES have symptoms that range from severe (violent vomiting to bile and hypovolemic shock) to mild (bloody diarrhea, sleep disturbances).
There is no test for FPIES. It is diagnosed by clinical observation and ruling out other possibilities.
There also are no tests to determine trigger foods. FPIES parents must simply feed their child a food, then wait to see if they react.
