Last weekend I went to one of my oldest friends baby shower.  It was a lovely party for her and her baby, and I was so glad I got to share in the experience with her.  She looks gorgeous, and her son is already so blessed! But, it was nerve-wracking … Continue reading →

Last weekend Mr. Charm had a poopy diaper that looked a little odd.  I couldn’t quite tell if it was mucous or blood.  Or both.  So, I pulled out our handy-dandy stool testing kit and put it to use. Yup. Blood. Nothing has ever caused Mr. Charm to have blood … Continue reading →

  • What is FPIES?

FPIES stands for Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome. It is a rare food allergy that affects the gastrointestinal system. Reactions are delayed onset, usually 2-4 hours after a trigger food is eaten, but sometimes even longer than that.
    _________________________________________
Children with FPIES have symptoms that range from severe (violent vomiting to bile and hypovolemic shock) to mild (bloody diarrhea, sleep disturbances).
    _________________________________________
There is no test for FPIES. It is diagnosed by clinical observation and ruling out other possibilities.
    _________________________________________
There also are no tests to determine trigger foods. FPIES parents must simply feed their child a food, then wait to see if they react.
